Sky Sports claim the north London giants are up against Chelsea in pursuing Atalana starlet Byran Cristante, who has had a hugely impressive season in Serie A.
Although not strictly a player who operates in the same position as Alex Iwobi, his arrival would surely only serve to force the likes of Mesut Ozil or Henrikh Mkhitaryan out wide and push the Nigerian even further down the pecking order after a disappointing season.
Despite initially showing plenty of promise when he broke into the Arsenal first-team, Iwobi has not progressed as hoped and needs a spell away from the Emirates Stadium on loan; that is if his worrying decline does not persuade them to simply cash in on him now.
The 21-year-old could surely find a good home in Watford’s squad next season, with the future of Richarlison up in the air ahead of this summer.
The Sun recently linked the exciting Brazilian with the likes of Manchester United, and Iwobi could serve as a direct replacement in attack.
It is a risky move and some Watford fans may prefer a more proven addition to replace a key player but, if Iwobi is given a fresh start under a new manager and more opportunities to play week in, week out, we could finally see the return of the player he looked like being when he burst on to the scene two years ago; and that would be a win-win for both clubs.
