Swansea City haven’t had the best of seasons but Oli McBurnie may have given them a glimpse of a better future on loan at Barnsley.
Despite only being at the club for the second half of this season, Swansea City loanee Oli McBurnie has scooped up the Barnsley Player of the Year award for 2017/18.
The 21-year-old has made a real impression in his brief time at Oakwell, scoring nine goals in 16 Championship appearances.
Swansea could certainly do with that kind of quality in their ranks next season, whether they’re fighting for Premier League survival again or chasing promotion straight back up to the top flight.
Carlos Carvalhal’s side currently sit just a point above the relegation zone and their leading scorer in the league is Jordan Ayew with just seven goals.
McBurnie can operate as a central striker or a wide-forward and despite struggling to catch the eye in limited appearances for Swansea or during other loan spells, he now seems to be coming into his own.
It is surely now time for the Scotland international to be given a chance in this Swansea side that have been crying out for a top striker since losing Fernando Llorente to Tottenham.
Tammy Abraham hasn’t really done it since joining on loan from Chelsea and may not be kept on, so McBurnie’s superb impact in a short space of time at Barnsley has surely done him the world of good in terms of progressing at the Liberty Stadium next season.
