As it stands, we are heading for a Liverpool-Real Madrid Champions League final, and Martin Keown thinks that could be good news for the Reds.

We are gearing up for a Liverpool versus Real Madrid final in the Champions League this year after the results of this week’s semi-final first legs.

While even the most confident Reds fans won’t want to be getting ahead of themselves, they go into next week’s game at the Stadio Olimpico with a commanding lead over Roma, whose suspect defence surely means Mohamed Salah and co. will get plenty of chances to add an away goal or two to the scoreline.

It is looking good for Real Madrid as well after a 2-1 away win at Bayern Munich, but the performance of Keylor Navas in goal for Zinedine Zidane’s side means Martin Keown thinks Liverpool should be pleased at the prospect of facing them as final opponents.

The Costa Rican looked unconvincing as Joshua Kimmich fired Bayern into the lead with a shot that crept in at the near post, and Keown feels Liverpool’s ruthless attackers would be well-placed to take advantage of this weakness in the Madrid team.

“Keylor Navas, the Real Madrid goalkeeper, looks a real worry. He is going to have to make plenty of saves should Liverpool meet Madrid in the final,” Keown wrote in the Daily Mail.

“Watching their win over Bayern Munich, Navas’s teammates were high-fiving him at every save as if to raise his confidence.

“Liverpool’s front line could blast a hole through Navas. He could be a real Achilles heel.”

Liverpool are the top scorers in the Champions League this season with a remarkable 38 goals in just 11 games and, with 43-goal Salah in this kind of form in front of goal, it is hard to argue with Keown that they would fancy their chances against Navas.

Still, Real have won this trophy two seasons in a row now and three times in the last four years, so clearly have it in them to do so once again with world-class talent like Cristiano Ronaldo in their ranks.

Liverpool have weaknesses at the back as well, of course and, while Navas could be targeted at one end, Real would surely cause problems for the likes of Dejan Lovren and Loris Karius at the other.
