Mohamed Salah was shocked to see Tottenham’s Harry Kane awarded a goal against Stoke City, but Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he believes him.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has surprisingly defended Tottenham striker Harry Kane over his own player Mohamed Salah.
The Reds boss has responded to the ongoing row over Kane claiming a goal against Stoke City in Spurs’ last Premier League clash, despite appearing not to get a touch.
The England international was adamant he diverted Christian Eriksen’s effort in, and was eventually given the goal as he competes with Liverpool forward Salah for the Premier League Golden Boot.
Salah’s reaction on Twitter summed up how he felt about it, but Klopp has backed Kane in the row, saying he doesn’t believe he’s the kind of guy who’d lie about it to nick an extra goal and gain ground on Salah.
“I’ve been involved in football for ages and I know how strikers are,” the German told reporters in his Friday afternoon press conference, as reported by the Metro.
“If he felt the touch then he felt the touch. I don’t doubt Harry Kane a little bit. Mo (Salah) is the same kind of person. You score a goal you score a goal – that’s how it is.
“He’s (Kane) a fantastic player. I don’t know him as a person, but he looks like a good guy as well.
“Strikers are different, they have to be different and we all like it. In this case, it was not obvious. But how I said, if he felt it then he felt it.”
The goal awarded to Kane takes the England striker’s tally to 25 Premier League goals, four behind Salah on 29, with the Egyptian having just picked up his third player of the month award of the season.
