Harry Maguire is the surprise favourite to leave Leicester City this summer and he looks a necessary signing for Everton.

Everton’s big spending didn’t do them too much good last season, but it’s clearly an unfinished project at Goodison Park.

One feels the Toffees are now just one or two more top class signings – and a new manager – away from becoming genuine contenders for a Europa League place, and Harry Maguire is a name they should seriously be looking at this summer.

According to the Daily Mirror, the England international is priced at just 6/5 to leave the King Power Stadium this summer after this hugely impressive campaign, ahead even of players like Riyad Mahrez and Demarai Gray.

Leicester are currently above Everton in the Premier League table, but historically it is the Toffees who have been the bigger name and there’s plenty of cause for optimism that they could lure Maguire over if they showed enough ambition.

Replacements for ageing centre-halves like Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka are clearly needed, and Maguire looks one of the best in the Premier League this season.

It is little wonder the Daily Mirror have recently linked the £35million-rated ace with Manchester United, but Everton could surely offer him more of a guarantee of regular first-team football, and, at least informally, present themselves as an ideal stepping stone to a bigger move later in his career.

It may be too soon for the 25-year-old to be making the step up to United or another big six club, but after showing himself to be one of this season’s real success stories, he’s precisely the kind of player Everton need to be targeting if they are to progress.
