West Brom should look no further than handing Darren Moore the manager’s job full time after he reached an impressive milestone this weekend.
It may be too little, too late but West Brom have looked a different side under caretaker boss Darren Moore, and should surely trust him to take the reins for the club in the Championship next season.
Although the Baggies remain five points from safety with just two games left to play, Moore has done a fine job of even giving them the faintest hope of survival – following a disastrous run under his predecessor Alan Pardew.
Moore has already picked up two wins and two draws from his first four games in charge, including a win away to Manchester United, a draw with Liverpool and a win away to Newcastle on Saturday.
That means the 44-year-old already has eight points on the board in his brief spell in control of the side – as many as Pardew managed in 18 matches.
West Brom fans will now be wishing they’d made the change earlier, as it most likely won’t be enough to secure their top flight status this year. But it’s crucial Moore is now given the job permanently, and the chance to lead their fightback in the Championship in 2018/19.
Having spent five years on WBA’s books during his playing days, Moore is a man with a strong connection to the club who has clearly sparked something from a relatively weak squad, and got them performing above their level in a very short time.
Rather than continuing to hire and fire the same old names that seem to continually make their way around the relegation battlers of the Premier League or the promotion hopefuls of the Championship, Moore looks like he deserves a shot at the big job and could be the just the man West Brom needs to ensure a speedy passage back to the top flight.
