Andy Gray told beIN Sports (20/02/21 at 5:30 pm) that ‘maybe we will’ see Virgil van Dijk back in action for Liverpool before the season ends.

The former striker was making reference to the towering centre-back being in attendance at Anfield for Liverpool’s derby day defeat on Saturday.

Whilst Liverpool fans would have been frustrated at yet another defeat, the sight of their influential figure at the back would have been pleasing to see.

As Van Dijk made his way up the Anfield steps and into his seat, Gray was encouraged by how he was walking ‘quite comfortably’, which will be music to the ears of the Liverpool fans.

“Good to see that,” said Gray. “He looked certainly mobile. And maybe we will get a surprise.

“Maybe the big man will make an appearance before the end of the season. He certainly bounced up the stairs of that stand quite comfortably.”

Whilst Liverpool’s defence was leaky at the start of the season with Van Dijk, it all has gone to pot since he has been joined by both Joe Gomez and Joel Matip in the treatment room.

Injury on top of injury has resulted in Jurgen Klopp having to take players out of his engine room – Jordan Henderson and Fabinho – and putting them at the back.

And Liverpool’s latest display and defeat against Everton, further proves that the quicker Van Dijk comes back, the quicker they’ll start wracking up the clean sheets and wins again.
