Speaking on the SportBible YouTube channel, Arsene Wenger has named Patrick Vieira as his favourite ever signing at Arsenal.
The Frenchman was answering fan questions about his career, and inevitably, one supporter wanted to know who Wenger sees as his greatest ever purchase.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Wenger picked his former captain Vieira as his favourite signing, stating that everyone gave him a lot of credit for bringing the Frenchman to Highbury.
What’s been said?
Wenger was asked to name his favourite Arsenal signing.
“I made a few good signings, but maybe the best, well not the best, but the one people give me credit because I arrived together with him was Patrick Vieira. After people would say Thierry Henry, but of course Henry was an unbelievable signing, I came here unknown, but after Patrick, people said ‘I don’t know this guy, but at least he brings good players.’,” Wenger said.

Up there with the best
Vieira may not be the best player Wenger ever signed for Arsenal. After all, he did bring Thierry Henry to the club, but in terms of a piece of business, this signing is hard to beat.
Vieira arrived at Arsenal as a World Cup winner, but he was still a relative unknown after being forced to the reserves not long after making his move to AC Milan.
Wenger showed faith in the Frenchman and it paid off to some tune. He led the Gunners to unparalleled successes and immediately proved that Wenger knew what he was doing in the transfer market.
