Jurgen Klinsmann has suggested that he would still love to manage Tottenham Hotspur again one day, with his comments to FourFourTwo

Big dreams

Klinsmann was strongly linked with the Tottenham job in the summer, when the club struggled to find a replacement for Jose Mourinho.

Tottenham went through a number of managerial candidates and actually handed Klinsmann an interview, but ultimately picked Nuno to be their next boss.

Nuno’s time at Tottenham was brief, and he never managed to win the supporters over.

But Klinsmann holds no hard feelings over Daniel Levy for picking the Portuguese boss, and suggests that the opportunity to manage Tottenham would still be one he would relish in the future.

“Tottenham is always something you’d love to do, because it’s your club, you share so many emotional moments with them and you know lots of people who are still there.

“I’m still in touch with Gary Mabbutt and other people around the club, so who knows? Maybe one day.

“I would love to go back to management one day, with the right people at the right place, and hopefully at the right time.

“I work here in the US for ESPN every week and I follow everything in Europe, all the competitions.”

Could Klinsmann be a future option?

Klinsmann did have some high profile backers for the Tottenham job when it was available, with Gary Lineker among those suggesting him for the vacancy.

Tottenham may well be hoping that it is a while before they are looking for a new manager again now though.

Antonio Conte has started brilliantly at Spurs, with the North London side still unbeaten in domestic competition since he arrived.

Klinsmann’s own CV doesn’t quite match up to Conte’s currently, although he has had some success of his own during his career to date.

The 57-year-old was widely credited with doing an excellent job as USA boss, while he also took Germany to third place at a World Cup.

Klinsmann has also managed Bayern Munich and Hertha Berlin during his career to date.

As a player, Klinsmann remains a Tottenham icon – having netted 38 goals over two seasons with the Lilywhites.
