Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson and Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic played together for the Sweden football team.

Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that he hopes to play against Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic next season.

The West Yorkshire outfit are playing in the Championship at the moment, but they are genuine playoff contenders and could get promoted to the English top flight at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

The Swedish striker has scored 14 goals and created 34 chances in 22 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils so far this campaign.

Jansson, who joined Leeds on a season-long loan deal from Italian club Torino in the summer of 2016, played with Ibrahimovic for the Sweden national football team.

“I really killed him in that game so maybe he is scared of me!” Jansson laughed and told The Yorkshire Evening Post while referring to a pre-season game between Malmo and Inter Milan.

“I hope so but maybe he’s going back to Italy, I don’t know,” added the Leeds defender about playing against him. “We will see what’s happening. It would be nice to play against him again.”

United are sixth in the Premier League table at the moment with 42 points from 23 matches, four points behind Liverpool, who are currently fourth in the standings and occupy the final playoff spot.

Meanwhile, Leeds currently find themselves fourth in the Championship table with 54 points from 29 games.
