Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Arsenal and their interest in Lucas Paqueta.

The Gunners have been strongly linked with the Lyon midfielder for some time now, but according to Romano, this transfer isn’t a priority for the Gunners right now.

However, that isn’t to say that a deal for the 24-year-old isn’t on Edu’s agenda.

Indeed, according to Romano, this could be a transfer that happens towards the end of the transfer window, but even then, the journalist has noted how difficult it will be to negotiate such a deal.

What’s been said?

Romano spoke about Paqueta and Arsenal.

“I think he is not the main priority I am told for Arsenal now. So maybe something could happen in the coming weeks or at the end of the window, but the president of Lyon is really complicated, so it will be difficult to negotiate and Arsenal already have a number of quality players, they already have a number of quality players, they have Fabio Vieira, Odegaard signed last summer and they have Smith Rowe along with many others,” Romano said.

Deadline day dash

Paqueta isn’t a priority for Arsenal, but as deadline day approaches, he could come back into the fray.

Of course, this is all dependent on Arsenal’s remaining budget at the end of August and whether or not the player is actively pushing for a move away from Lyon, but if the right circumstances present themselves, this could be Arsenal’s final blockbuster signing of the summer.

The Gunners certainly need to pull a rabbit out of the hat if they’re going to be challenging at the top next term, and Paqueta may well be that difference maker.
