Southampton defender Maya Yoshida is settled in Southampton and isn’t keen on a move to Saudi Arabia.
Maya Yoshida has decided to reject a move to Saudi Arabia and will remain at Southampton next season, according to reports.
Yoshida, who joined Saints from Dutch side VVV Venlo back in 2012, has attracted interest from Saudi Arabian champions Al Hilal, who are keen to bring the 28-year-old defender to the Middle East.
But the Japan international, who has linked up with his international teammates ahead of their World Cup campaign in Russia next month, has rejected those overtures, the Daily Echo claim. The report suggests Yoshida and his young family are settled in the nearby area, while the player is also reluctant to disrupt his final preparations for this summer’s competition with a lengthy transfer.
News of Yoshida’s decision to reject a potentially lucrative move to the Middle East will be a boost for Mark Hughes, who is expected to be handed the Saints job on a permanent basis after guiding the club to Premier League safety last season.
Sky Sports report an agreement that will keep the former Wales international and his backroom staff at St Mary’s until 2021 is close to being announced.
