Leigh Griffiths is enjoying another sensational season, so perhaps West Bromwich Albion should revive their interest in the Celtic star.
The Record suggested that the 27-year-old would probably be available for £6 million after a campaign where he had been somewhat overshadowed by Moussa Dembele during the Frenchman’s first year at Parkhead.
Griffiths has wrestled the talisman role back from Dembele it seems at the start of this term, scoring nine goals for club and country, including goals in the first Old Firm meeting of the campaign, the Champions League group-stage win over Anderlecht and Scotland’s crucial World Cup qualifier with Slovenia during this international break.
So while it may now be out of the question for West Brom to try and land the former Wolves man for £6 million, it could certainly be argued that the Baggies should try and make a move in January.
Tony Pulis’ men have generally struggled for goals this season, with the 2-2 draw with Watford in the final game before the break proving to be the only time that West Brom have scored more than once in the league this term.
The Baggies’ main striker options – Jay Rodriguez, Salomon Rondon and Hal Robson-Kanu – have only bagged one top flight goal each this term.
Meanwhile, Griffiths’ record in Scotland is simply sensational, with 92 goals coming in 148 games for the Hoops. And those who doubt the quality of the Scottish Premiership only have to look at some of the players who have come from Parkhead and become some of the most impressive players in England in recent years to know that Griffiths’ form is good enough to suggest that he could also thrive in England.
Griffiths would arguably give Pulis’ side that lethal touch in front of goal they currently appear to lack, and for that reason, reigniting their summer interest surely makes sense, even if they have to forget about the idea of being able to pay just £6 million for him.
