West Ham United vice-chairman Karren Brady has written in The Sun that Erling Haaland may have wanted to join Leeds United.

Brady has suggested that Haaland may have liked to move to Leeds due to his father playing for the West Yorkshire club.

Alf-Inge Haaland was on the books of Leeds from 1997 until 2000 and also played for Nottingham Forest and Manchester City.

Brady has added that Leeds cannot afford to sign the Borussia Dortmund striker due to the finances involved.

According to ESPN, Dortmund are looking for €180 million (£156.26 million) as transfer fee for the 20-year-old Norway international.

Brady wrote about Haaland in The Sun: “Erling may have liked to join Leeds, where he was born and where his father played for three years, but I don’t think they are in the running. And, make no mistake about it, money is the critical factor.”

Erling Haaland to Leeds United?

Haaland is one of the best young strikers in the world, and there is no doubt that Leeds would love to sign him.

However, it is clear that a club who are playing in the Premier League for the first time since 2004 cannot afford to spend €180 million (£156.26 million) on a single player.

Leeds are not in the running for Haaland – who has scored 21 goals and provided four assists in the Bundesliga and has scored 10 goals and given two assists in the Champions League for Dortmund so far this season, according to WhoScored – and no one has said anything otherwise.
