Robbie Savage has stated that Arsenal ‘may as well bid for Mbappé’ after it was suggested that Mikel Arteta should show some intent and put a bid in for Erling Braut Haaland, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The former Premier League midfielder made it clear that Arsenal won’t sign the Dortmund superstar because there is no reason why he would leave the German club for the Emirates.

The January transfer window is open and Haaland’s name will surely be thrown about as someone who will be attracting interest from the top European clubs.

But whilst it’s unlikely anything may happen this month, the 21-year-old, who seemingly has a £63 million release clause in his contract, will probably be the main event come the summer, alongside Mbappé who is likely to become a free agent.

Nonetheless, it was suggested by an Arsenal fan to BBC pundit duo Savage and Chris Sutton that the north London club should show intent by putting in a bid for Haaland, even if they don’t get him, and they issued this response.

“He’s not going to go to Arsenal though, is he?” said Sutton. “How much would you have to pay for Haaland?”

Savage then added: “I think he has a clause, isn’t it £60 odd million? I get what you are saying, but you may as well bid for Mbappé then for £200 million.

“But you are not going to get Haaland either. Even if you put a bid in. He’s not going to go to Arsenal. Why would he go to Arsenal.”

It has been some while since Arsenal were able to position themselves where they can compete with the best to try and sign Europe’s best.

The first steps they need to take is to get back into the Champions League before they take dream big.

At this moment in time, the Gunners are sitting in the final Champions League places, but they have the likes of West Ham, Manchester United and Tottenham breathing down their necks.

This second half of the campaign is huge for someone like Arteta because a lot of faith and patience has been put into his management and, so far, they are on track.
