The Romanian is said to have ruled out a move to Leeds United this month.
According to a report from German newspaper Bild, Stuttgart play-maker Alexandru Maxim has ruled out a move to Leeds United because he wants to play for a top flight club.
The problem is that alleged decision smacks of short-term thinking, with the Romanian international failing to see the bigger picture.
Leeds may be a second tier club for now, but the future looks extremely bright under manager Garry Monk and new joint-owner Andrea Radrizzani.

The Whites may have suffered a defeat at the hands of Barnsley last time out, but they look good for at least a play-off place come May, and with one of the most exciting and efficient squads in the Championship, there is every chance they will finally return to the Premier League after far too long away.
Assuming they do so, one of the biggest clubs in England will finally be back where it belongs, at which point Maxim’s thinking will seem somewhat bizarre.
Here is a player who cannot get regular game-time for a second tier German side, and yet Monk is said to be a huge fan who is keen to bring him to Elland Road.

If the player thinks more about the long game, a move to Leeds this month could rejuvenate his career and ensure he is playing in the Premier League next season.
Instead Maxim appears to be looking elsewhere, and in truth Leeds do not need players like that. Instead they should focus on those who wish to buy into Monk’s exciting vision.
