Michael Skubala has impressed Maximilian Wober at Thorp Arch since becoming caretaker manager of Leeds United. He admires how the U21 boss has relied on their senior players.
Elland Road chiefs have given Skubala the reigns until further notice whilst they search for Jesse Marsch’s permanent replacement. He has enjoyed two impressive performances at the helm against Manchester United so far. Next up, the Whites visit Everton on Saturday.
Their trip to Goodison Park is vital as the teams battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League. Just one point separates Leeds in 17th and Everton in 18th place after 22 games so far this season. They have also both won a league-low four fixtures ahead of their match.

Skubala started Wober in Leeds’ 2-2 draw at Manchester United and 2-0 defeat at Elland Road under the caretaker manager. The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the Whites’ first-choice centre-halves following his £14m transfer from RB Salzburg in January.
Marsch paid the Austrian outfit an initial £10m to reunite with Wober from his time at the helm in Salzburg. The 6 ft 2 enforcer has now played five and started four Premier League games, plus three FA Cup ties. But he is yet to win a league game since arriving in England.

Skubala and Wober will now hope to get their first wins when Leeds visit Everton. But the 13-cap Austrian appreciates the efforts the Whites’ U21 boss has put in to hear from their senior players since replacing Marsch. He also feels Skubala has taken the advice on board.
“I think Skubes did really well that he brought in the leadership group,” Wober has told the Yorkshire Evening Post. “The experienced players and also asked them about their opinion.
“What they think we have to improve on, what they think, what we have to work on and then get some opinions of the experienced players and try to combine everything and put a good team on the pitch, and I think that’s exactly what he did.”
Marsch established a leadership council at Leeds whilst the manager in West Yorkshire. It included captain Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas, Patrick Bamford, Adam Forshaw, Luke Ayling and Rodrigo. They have played a combined 758 top-flight matches in their careers so far.
