Tackling is a big part of the French defender’s overall game.

While skill level can be noticed from early on in a footballer’s career, some intangibles such as passion and determination are harder to judge. Luckily for Brentford fans, they don’t have to be concerned about the commitment to the cause in the case of their right-back Maxime Colin.

No defender has committed more successful tackles than Colin this season who has 35 in total, and the Frenchman is third in the league only behind QPR’s Massimo Luongo (44) and Barnsley captain Conor Hourihane (40). Committing a successful tackle is a art in itself and is one of those underrated actions that can inspire a side.

Colin is in his second season playing football in England after signing from Belgian club Anderlecht in the summer of 2015. After making a strong start to his career at the Bees, a knee ligament injury and then a groin injury interrupted his progress. Determined to make more of a impact in his second season, the 24 year-old put in a big pre season and got his body in top condition.

However a niggling calf complaint saw Colin miss the league clash against Huddersfield and EFL Cup clash against Exeter which both resulted in defeats. Since his return to the team, Brentford have lost just two of their last 10 fixtures and despite a frustrating draw in their last game against Wigan currently sit in seventh position.

After the international break they will face a true test of their credentials against promotion favourites Newcastle. They then have a run of fixtures against Derby(a), Barnsley(h), QPR(a), Fulham(h) and Blackburn(a) which can help to set up their season. However, as we have seen so many times in the past, the favoured team take their eyes off the ball and the opportunity is wasted. With Colin in Brentford’s team you sense he wont let the focus drop.
