The Celta Vigo hitman would surely be more of a key figure at West Ham United than he would at Tottenham Hotspur.

Maxi Gomez is holding out for a move to Tottenham instead of West Ham, according to the Mirror, but which club should the Uruguayan choose?

The 22-year-old is one of the most in-demand strikers in Europe, and he seems to be perfectly built for the robust nature of the Premier League.

One thing that could hinder his progress over the next few years, however, is a lack of regular game-time, and that is why he should opt to join the Hammers instead of Spurs.

Should Gomez join Tottenham, he will serve as Harry Kane’s back-up, and should the England international avoid injury, the Celta ace would most likely only start domestic cup games.

One the other hand, a move to West Ham would yield far more game-time. He would be the Hammers’ number one striker, and would have the chance to endear himself to the London Stadium faithful on a regular basis.

Much will depend on what Gomez actually wants. Does he want to play regularly, and improve and develop as a footballer? Or does he want to be part of a team where he is not a guaranteed starter, but has more chance of winning major honours?

Perhaps the ideal scenario for him would be to join West Ham this summer, stay in east London for a few years and prove that he has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League, before moving on to one of the big boys.

Spanish publication Marca claims that the Uruguay international has a €50 million (£44.8 million) release clause, and in today’s day and age, that represents decent value for money for a striker with his ability.

Whether he will be plying his trade at Tottenham or West Ham next season, however, remains to be seen.
