West Ham United are reportedly keen on Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez.
Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez has told El Desmarque that he doesn’t know if he’ll be staying at the club amid links to West Ham United.
The Hammers may be overhauling their striking options this summer. Marko Arnautovic, Lucas Perez and Javier Hernandez have been linked away, whilst Andy Carroll is out of contract this summer.
With that in mind, Manuel Pellegrini and co need to have a whole host of strikers on his radar for the summer transfer window, and one main name has been touted for a move to East London.
West Ham wanted Celta Vigo’s Gomez in January according to the London Evening Standard, but delayed a £43.5million move until the end of the season as Celta weren’t willing to sell without a loan back.
Football.London reported earlier this month that Gomez is one of West Ham’s top targets this summer, aiming to finally lure the Uruguayan powerhouse to the London Stadium.
Gomez, 22, has hit 11 goals and five assists in 28 La Liga games this season, impressing despite Celta’s struggles, though not quite at the same level as his 17-goal campaign last season.
Now, Gomez, has admitted that he doesn’t know if he’s staying at Celta amid rumours of a move to West Ham, but he’s ignoring the rumours for now and focusing on helping Celta stay in the top flight of Spanish football.
“I do not know if I’m going or if I’m staying,” said Gomez. “I am now in Celta and I hope it continues like this, helping the team is fundamental.”
“Many things come out, I do not look at those things. As I say, I am very happy here and hopefully continue contributing and helping – that is fundamental,” he added.
