Max Verstappen and Marc Marquez are two of the greatest competitors in their own respective forms of motorsport, and while F1 is often incomparable to MotoGP, there are some similarities between the status they hold at their racing outfits.

During a year that saw Max Verstappen lose his championship streak in Formula 1, Marc Marquez rose to dominance once again as he secured his first MotoGP world title since enduring an injury nightmare at the start of the 2020s.

It marked the Spaniard’s seventh in the premier class and ninth overall in Grand Prix motorcycle racing.

The first six in MotoGP came at the factory Honda outfit, where Marquez further bolstered the Japanese constructor’s status as the most successful outfit in history.

However, it has often been theorised that Marquez’s hand in development caused the team to go in the wrong direction following his absence.

Similarly, Verstappen has often been hailed as the only F1 driver who can succeed in Red Bull’s recent machinery.

The stats don’t lie, and he has been far superior to every one of his teammates who have attempted to beat the Dutchman in equal machinery since 2018.

Christian Fittipaldi makes a comparison between F1’s Max Verstappen and MotoGP’s Marc Marquez

In a recent episode of the Pelas Pistas podcast, former F1 driver Christian Fittipaldi drew a comparison between the way that Max Verstappen and Marc Marquez often hold a lot more power over their teammates when it comes to the development of their respective equipment.

The nephew of two-time F1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi said, “Let’s use Max as an example in Formula 1, and we’ll use Marquez on the motorbike. Marquez in MotoGP, he’s delivering, so it’s obvious that you’re going to hear a lot more from him.

“Naturally, you’re going to tend towards everything Marquez wants, in the same way, the same thing can be said in Formula 1, what Max demands for him to be fast, you’re going to try to adapt the car to his way of driving.

“For me, anyway, we already talked about this in another episode, but the best description of Max was the one given by Albon, with the sensitivity of the mouse. The guy is operating in another dimension.

“Yes, there are other drivers, like in Formula 1, who are extremely competent, without a doubt, but the others are down here, and Max is a step above.”

Fittipaldi is referring to a previous interview involving Alex Albon, where the Williams star detailed how Verstappen often likes the front-end of his car to be highly sensitive in order to cater to his driving style.

Both Max Verstappen and Marc Marquez are eyeing titles in their respective sports this season

With F1 now experiencing a complete overhaul of the technical regulations, Verstappen is hoping to put his defeat in the 2025 championship behind him and claim a fifth world title.

It may be a tall order, however, with Red Bull marking the new era by becoming a fully works-integrated team through Red Bull Powertrains’ collaboration with Ford.

On the other side of things, Marquez is hopeful of defending his world title in MotoGP for the first time since the 2019 season.

The Spaniard was unable to put up a proper title defence in 2020, due to a horrific crash at the season-opener that ruled him out of the rest of the campaign.
