Max Verstappen has shown interest in buying a MotoGP team, but so far, several potential deals have failed to materialise.

The Red Bull driver’s passion for MotoGP isn’t new; he’s been following the sport since childhood. Now, Verstappen seems keen to take a more active role as an investor.

Liberty Media’s takeover from Dorna last year is expected to boost MotoGP’s global reach significantly. With their track record in Formula 1, there’s speculation that team valuations could climb quickly, creating new opportunities for buyers and sellers alike.

Guenther Steiner has already made his move by purchasing Tech3 and aims to take over the entire KTM operation. Since finalising that deal in 2025, other F1 figures have started showing interest in MotoGP ownership too.

Lewis Hamilton was linked with Gresini at one point, though the team wasn’t interested in selling or bringing on a new investor. Verstappen has also been having discussions and may be closer to getting the go-ahead soon.

Reports have been swirling about Verstappen’s intention to buy an entire satellite team. With the shift under Liberty Media, team values are expected to climb, and from 2027 onwards, these teams could even be designing their own chassis.

LCR and Trackhouse were the names most often linked to his interest. Still, a deal with either looked unlikely at first glance.

LCR boss Lucio Cecchinello reportedly has no plans to sell the full team but hasn’t ruled out bringing in a minority partner. Meanwhile, Justin Marks had initially wanted to retain full control of Trackhouse, which closed that door for Verstappen.

But according to a report from GPOne, that situation may have shifted. Marks is now said to be open to a sale and has received an offer larger than what Steiner paid for Tech3.

Trackhouse’s 2027 MotoGP Plans: Aprilia satellite team status uncertain

With Marks now willing to consider selling, Verstappen would have the chance to start talks with Trackhouse. The team’s structure and direction could look quite different by the time the 2027 season rolls around.

Trackhouse’s current agreement with Aprilia runs until the end of 2026, and the following contract period will cover 2027 through to 2031. With ongoing uncertainty in the rider market, there’s been speculation about possible changes in manufacturer alignment across several teams.

Aprilia has also been linked with VR46, as Valentino Rossi is reportedly exploring a move away from Ducati. If VR46 were to join Aprilia, given their budget constraints, it could force Trackhouse out of their partnership.

There have also been rumours that Trackhouse is already in talks with Honda, who are looking to expand their satellite presence. However, Massimo Rivola has maintained that Trackhouse remains Aprilia’s top priority despite the growing interest from VR46.
