Pedro Caixinha’s Glasgow Rangers, Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff City have been linked with Wigan Athletic’s Max Power in the summer transfer window.
Max Power may not be wanted by League One club Wigan Athletic, but the 24-year-old does not seem to be short of options as no fewer than three major clubs are reportedly interested in him.
According to The Daily Mail, Wigan could allow Power to leave for £500,000 with manager Paul Cook having frozen out the midfielder.
Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff City in the Championship and Scottish Premiership club Rangers are interested in the Englishman, according to The Daily Mail.
Cardiff are a big club, but given that top-two contenders Wednesday and Glasgow giants Rangers are also interested, one suspects that Power would shortlist the Owls and the Gers.
Between Wednesday and Rangers, Power should choose the latter. It would make perfect sense.
The Owls already have a strong team with a settled starting lineup, and it is hard to see Power break into the first XI rightaway.
True, Power knows the Championship well, but Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal would probably not think that a player who got relegated from the second tier of English football last season could play for his promotion-chasing side week in week out.
At Rangers, though, 24-year-old Power would have a better chance of playing regularly. The Gers have signed a number of new players in the summer transfer window, and manager Pedro Caixinha could be open to the idea of making changes to his starting lineup as the season progresses.
The Ibrox outfit will be aiming to challenge Old Firm rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title this season, and Power could make himself a hero among the fans if he plays a key role in the Gers’ quest.
The Scottish Premiership is not at the level of the Championship in England in terms of quality, competition and physicality, and Power would find it easier to play for Rangers than for Wednesday.
