Max Power has posted his delight on Twitter after his Sunderland loan from Championship side Wigan Athletic was turned into a permanent deal after the January transfer window opened.
The 25-year-old joined Sunderland in the summer from Wigan on loan, but because the move was confirmed after August 9’s permanent window closing, Sunderland reached a loan-to-buy agreement.
It meant that as soon as the January window struck, Power would become a Sunderland player permanently as soon as the winter window opened. It is a move that has seen all parties benefit.
The central midfielder has impressed in Sunderland’s pursuit of an instant return to the Championship, making 22 appearances in all competitions for the Black Cats. He Tweeted after being confirmed as an official Sunderland player.
Power – who has scored twice for Sunderland in wins over Gillingham and Scunthorpe United – has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Sunderland, which will see his contract run until the summer of 2021.
He has started and finished Sunderland’s last five Championship outings and he will be expecting to make that six when Sunderland travel south to face Lee Bowyer’s Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
