The West Ham United teenager has only played once for Borussia Monchengladbach this season.
Borussia Monchengladbach could still look into the permanent signing of Reece Oxford despite the West Ham United loanee’s lack of action, according to Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl.
Oxford has played just one minute of senior football since joining the Bundesliga side in July, which is not enough to active a clause to keep him at Borussia Park full-time.
Nevertheless, the 18-year-old appears to have made a positive impression on Eberl, who hopes West Ham will allow him to stay regardless.
“He’s a top lad,” said the 44-year-old, as quoted by the Bundesliga website. “He’s come on well and we’re very happy with him. It takes time to find your feet in the Bundesliga, but we certainly want him to stay. West Ham now have the final say.”
Eberl added: “We could look into signing him anyway. When our injured players are back, we’re going to have quite a strong troop.”
Oxford’s exit was sanctioned during Slaven Bilic’s tenure as West Ham manager, and new boss David Moyes may wish to take a closer look at the England Under-20 international.
Moyes started 18-year-old Declan Rice against Manchester City on Sunday, and included a quartet of under-23 team players – Nathan Trott, Ben Johnson, Domingos Quina and Toni Martinez.
Oxford has made 16 West Ham appearances, although his most recent outing came in August 2016.
