Newcastle United have had issues at left back in recent years – but they may have finally solved the problem.

The likes of Antonio Barreca, Jetro Willems and Danny Rose have all had loan spells at Newcastle in an attempt to find a long-term left back.

None of them have managed to earn permanent moves, and Newcastle have now finally gone and spent on a left back for the long-term.

The Magpies completed the signing of Norwich City ace Jamal Lewis on Tuesday, handing him a five-year deal at St James’ Park.

The Daily Mail claim that Newcastle have paid £15million rising to £20million with add-ons, as the Magpies look for him to nail down that spot for years to come.

Lewis is just 22, and has a year of Premier League experience under his belt having featured prominently for Norwich last season.

Lewis’s exit was of course a sad day for Norwich, as the Northern Ireland international has been a Canary since signing from Luton Town in 2013.

Teammate Max Aarons took to Twitter on Tuesday night to post an emotional goodbye to Lewis, stating that the left back gave him the belief to be a first-team player and play without fear, whilst urging him to ‘smash it’ at Newcastle.
