Marcel Lavinier has completed a permanent move from Tottenham Hotspur to join Swindon Town on deadline day after managing just one senior Spurs outing – prompting reaction from both Max Aarons and Josh King on Instagram.
Lavinier, 21, joined Tottenham from Chelsea in the summer of 2020. He has since been a regular in the Under-21 side at Tottenham, clocking up 43 appearances in two seasons for the Premier League 2 side. He has even captained them.
Now, the England Under-17 international has left Tottenham – managing one solitary appearance for Tottenham’s senior side. He joins League Two side Swindon on a permanent basis, where he is likely to be among the first team.
Lavinier has taken to Instagram to underline his delight at joining Swindon from Tottenham. Able to play at full-back, or in the middle of the defence, he is a superb addition for Swindon at that level – given the quality of the defender.

Lavinier never had a chance of breaking into the senior side. There are two main reasons for that. The first being that Antonio Conte rarely delves into his reserve, or Under-18 sides to bolster the first team. He would rather use versatility.
Conte would prefer to use a more-experienced player in an unfamiliar position, than turn to the likes of Lavinier. The second, is the competition in Tottenham’s squad. Eric Dier, Cristian Romero, Davinson Sanchez and more are options.
Spurs are aplenty with right-footed central defenders. At right-back, Matt Doherty, Emerson Royal and new signing Djed Spence are options. So, he had to leave on deadline day, whether that was going to be on loan, or permanently.
He joins a Swindon side that have won just one of the club’s opening six games. Norwich right-back Aarons, often linked with Spurs – and ex-Bournemouth, Manchester United and Everton striker King responded.
