Mauricio Pochettino’s weekend decisions should worry Tottenham Hotspur duo regarding future

Tottenham Hotspur duo Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen did not start against Millwall in the FA Cup last weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur were expected to win against Millwall last weekend, and they did. The North London outfit hammered the Lions 6-0 at White Hart Lane in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

While everyone connected with the club was delighted, there is one player who should be concerned. Moussa Sissoko once again failed to make the starting lineup and came on as a substitute only in the 78th minute.

The 27-year-old midfielder may have cost Tottenham as much as £30 million when he joined from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016 (as reported by BBC Sport), but he is nothing more than a squad player at the moment.

The France international has been able to feature in only 17 Premier League matches for Spurs so far this season and has been not very impressive.

Sissoko would have expected to start against Millwall last weekend, but manager Mauricio Pochettino’s team selection against the League One club is a clear indicator that the Frenchman is not rated highly.

The signing of Sissoko was a strange one as Spurs did not really need a midfielder like him, and the fact that he cannot get into the team against Millwall suggests that he could be sold in the summer transfer window.

Another player who should be concerned is Vincent Janssen. The 22-year-old striker has severely struggled in the Premier League this season, and one can understand why Pochettino did not include him in the starting lineup against Millwall.

What was surprising was when Harry Kane had to be substituted after just 10 minutes due to injury, it was not Janssen but Christian Eriksen who replaced the England international striker.

The Netherlands international striker did come on, but only in the 74th minute. True, the 22-year-old scored, but it was against a League One side at home.

It does not bode well for Janssen that he could not even come on as an early substitute in a cup tie. Perhaps it is an indication from Pochettino that the striker could be moved on at the end of the season.
