Mauricio Pochettino’s transfer hint should intrigue Tottenham Hotspur supporters

Tottenham Hotspur may well have some surprise targets for the summer transfer window.

Mauricio Pochettino’s latest comments about Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer plans to the Daily Express should excite supporters of the London club.

Pochettino has hinted that Spurs will try to get their business done early this summer, as they don’t want their prices to rise at the World Cup.

Pochettino said: “The World Cup only can confirm your idea about a player.

“It is so dangerous to go and scout players in the World Cup because, if a player is good, how after are you going to sign him?

“Sometimes you need to anticipate and say, ‘OK this player can be good for us’ and then he goes to the World Cup. But you need to sign before the tournament starts because he is doing well and then you will have a lot of competition if they are good.”

However, what makes the comments intriguing, is that almost every one of the players Spurs have been linked to so far will not be at the World Cup.

Tottenham are said to be interested in a whole host of targets – with Pochettino keen to invest.

Spurs are said to want the likes of Matthijs De Ligt, David Neres, Amadou Diawara, Ryan Sessegnon, Arthur Masuaku, Wilfried Zaha, Alfie Mawson and Bryan Cristante – yet every one of those players will be watching the World Cup from home.

That means that there is no danger of their prices rising, and Pochettino’s comments, therefore, hint that Spurs have targets that are yet to be reported in the media.

Tottenham may be looking to keep their cards close to their chest, to ensure that they don’t jeopardise their chances of getting deals of the line.

And it seems that Pochettino has a few unknown transfer targets up his sleeve, otherwise his transfer plan would not make sense.
