The Tottenham Hotspur striker is facing a race to be fit in time for his side’s clash with Chelsea in a couple of weeks.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media yesterday, ahead of his side’s FA Cup clash with Swansea City tomorrow, and provided an update on when he expects Harry Kane to return to action, following the ankle injury that he sustained last weekend, as quoted by Football.London.
Kane, 24, was substituted after 34 minutes against Bournemouth on Sunday, after twisting his ankle, and it was confirmed that it was the same injury that he suffered last season – one that kept him out for around six weeks.
Spurs have been on a fine run of form recently, losing just one match in all competitions since December 16th, and Kane has played a major role in his side’s successful campaign thus far, scoring 35 goals.
How the Lilywhites manage to cope without the England international remains to be seen, but Mauricio Pochettino does at least have plenty of options in reserve.
The Argentine spoke to reporters yesterday, and responded when asked whether Kane would be back in time for Tottenham’s huge clash with Chelsea on April 1st, as quoted by Football.London:
“The reality is with his crutch and boot. We need to assess him day by day and look at the reaction. The expectation is to recover as soon as possible. Then we’ll see. We cannot put a date for him to start participating in training with the team.”
This is a crucial point in the season for Tottenham, and losing Kane for any amount of time will be a huge blow for them, especially with a game of such magnitude just two weeks away.
It seems unlikely that the 24-year-old will be back in time for the game against the west Londoners, however, and Chelsea fans will be delighted to see the prolific striker miss out at Stamford Bridge.
