The Tottenham Hotspur chairman is a divisive figure amongst the club’s fans.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters yesterday, ahead of his side’s clash with Stoke City today, and responded when asked what he thought of Daniel Levy’s reported £6 million salary at the club, as quoted by Football.London.
Spurs latest financial figures showed that Levy’s salary rose from £2.84 million to £6 million in just one year.
The Lilywhites chairman is well-renowned for his frugal approach to transfers and player contracts, and it is hard to criticise the job that he has done over the past few years at Spurs.
Tottenham spent heavily this season, bringing in the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Serge Aurier and Lucas Moura.
They still have the opportunity of finishing second in the Premier League this season, and also have an FA Cup semi final against Manchester United to look forward to.
The north London outfit are certainly a club on the rise, with Levy sailing the ship, but is he worth his salary?
Pochettino responded when asked about the Spurs supremo’s salary during his pre-match press conference, as quoted by Football.London:
“First of all, I think it’s very good news for the club, for the company it was a record for the club and was very positive news for Tottenham. Then, it’s not my point to talk. I don’t know the reality. In the end he is my boss and I need to respect everything that my boss made and do.”
If Spurs go on to finish inside the top four, and manage to win the FA Cup, this season would surely be considered as a success, and as a result, Levy’s salary would subsequently have to be judged as fair and well-earned.
