Tottenham Hotspur’s Georges-Kevin Nkoudou appears to be fighting a losing battle.
Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that he doesn’t think winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou is doing enough to win a first-team place.
Spurs swooped to sign Nkoudou from French side Marseille in the summer of 2016 following a lengthy transfer pursuit, with Mauricio Pochettino finally landing his man on the summer deadline day.
The winger had not only impressed with Marseille having hit nine goals and five assists, but he also showed promise with Nantes, displaying pace and dribbling ability out wide – which is just what Spurs were looking for when they signed him.
However, Nkoudou has yet to start a Premier League or Champions League game for Tottenham, and has played just 48 minutes in all competitions this term – leading manager Pochettino to discuss his situation.
Pochettino has told Football.London that Nkoudou isn’t showing enough in order to play regularly, and Spurs are still waiting for him to really prove his quality, with the Spurs manager’s comments possibly showing that the writing is on the wall.
Tottenham already have Son Heung-min who can come in for Christian Eriksen or Dele Alli, whilst Erik Lamela’s return may just push Nkoudou even further down the pecking order ahead of the January transfer window.
Having been with Spurs for over a year now without having made any sort of impact, Spurs may well look to move Nkoudou on in 2018, in order to bring in another winger, with fans remaining keen on the likes of Wilfried Zaha or Riyad Mahrez for an injection of pace in attack.
Pochettino’s brutally honest comments about Nkoudou’s lack of impact may just be the beginning of the end for the winger, whether that eventually comes in the January transfer window or next summer.
