The Tottenham Hotspur ace has just 18 months remaining on his current contract with the club.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters about Christian Eriksen’s future at the club, and suggested that a decision will be made in the summer, or possibly even sooner, as quoted by Sky Sports.
The Denmark international joined Spurs from Ajax in the summer of 2013, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £12.5 million, and he has gone on to establish himself as one of the club’s most important players, chalking up 60 goals and 77 assists in 248 appearances in all competitions.
Eriksen’s contract expires in the summer of 2020, however, so Pochettino will surely be keen to tie the Tottenham ace down to a new deal sooner rather than later.
The Argentine spoke to reporters, and insisted that plans are afoot to ensure that the 26-year-old remains with Spurs for the foreseeable future, as quoted by Sky Sports:

“Football is so dynamic. It changes every day, every season. It depends not only on your decision, but it is always a player’s decision. Of course, it is a person that the club wants for the future, but now we need to be focused. A decision is going to happen at the end of the season or [maybe] a decision will happen in the next few days, in January. Football is so dynamic – it is decision, decision, decision. I hope we are going to take the best decision for the club and hope the player can take the best decision for them and for the club.”
Eriksen is obviously incredibly vital to Tottenham, and losing him would be a real blow for the club.
It could be argued that tying him down to a new long-term deal will be more important than signing any new players.
The Dane is one of the world’s best play-makers, and Tottenham must do everything within their power to keep him at the club.
