Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino’s comments about Christian Eriksen are very clever, as they have put Daniel Levy under pressure now.

Pochettino has stated that he wants Eriksen to stay in no uncertain terms now, after the Tottenham midfielder was the match-winner in midweek against Brighton.

He said to the Football.London: “It’s a very special situation. Christian is a special person and we’re all different.

“I hope and I wish Christian can be with us in the future but I think Christian and us we are so open to talk and we will see what happens.

“I think it is so close the end of the season, a lot of time to talk after and I think the most important now, not only for him, is for all the players to be focused and try to achieve the things we want.”

Pochettino has rarely been this clear before on contract talks.

The way the Spurs boss has dealt with Toby Alderweireld’s situation, which is very similar, has been has continuously kept his cards close to his chest.

But with Eriksen he has now put the ball firmly in Levy’s court.

Christian Eriksen of Spurs looks on during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool FC at Wembley Stadium on September 15, 2018 in London, United Kingdom.

Pochettino wants Eriksen, and it is now up to Tottenham to prove that they can keep hold of their stars.

The good news for Spurs is that Levy definitely seems to be responding to his manager’s wishes, as the Daily Mail have suggested he has slapped a £130 million price-tag on the playmaker already.

Levy is said to be prepared to raise Eriksen’s wages, and Spurs will be hoping that the Dane does sign a new deal sooner rather than later, as his departure would be a hammer blow for them.
