Vincent Janssen joined Tottenham Hotspur from AZ in the summer of 2016.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has suggested to The Mirror that he is not concerned with Vincent Janssen’s disappointing form so far this season.
Janssen has struggled to adapt to the Premier League this season following his move from AZ in the summer of 2016 for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Mail at the time to be worth £18.5 million.
The 22-year-old striker has scored one goal and created 12 chances in 15 league appearances for Spurs so far this season.
Tottenham manager Pochettino, though, does not appear to think that the Netherlands international’s form is any cause for concern.
“For me, it is not an issue,” Pochettino told The Mirror. “Janssen is not in his best moment but he is young, it is first season and we have had a lot of chats with him.
“It’s normal. It’s all new for him and he needs to be relaxed, train hard, try to improve and when he has the opportunity to play show his quality. But it is not a major issue.”
Strange comments?
Pochettino’s comments about Janssen are strange and bewildering. The Dutchman’s form and performances so far this season should be a concern and is a major issue.
What if Harry Kane gets injured and is ruled out for the rest of the season? Would Janssen be able to step up and score the goals needed to ascertain a place in the top four?
While one can understand why Pochettino does not want to publicly criticise the Dutchman and knock his confidence, fans should be concern about the form of the striker and ask whether he can be a success at White Hart Lane.
