Mauricio Pochettino’s comments about Moussa Sissoko are starting to look highly questionable, as the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder continues to struggle.

Spurs took on Rochdale in the FA Cup last night, and won 6-1, with Sissoko selected to start in midfield.

However, the French midfielder failed to impress, with his performance again falling short of the expected standard.

Tottenham may have won comfortably, but Sissoko did not stand out against the lower league side.

Sissoko has featured regularly for Spurs this term, and Pochettino defended him back in January, with criticism mounting.

He said to the Daily Mail: “We have to give credit to Moussa. He is giving the team such balance that no one player can give.

“He gives a balance in transitions between defence and attack. Right now he is the only player that can give that. That is his biggest quality. The team needs that balance nowadays.

“For me he is one of the most important players of the season.”

Pochettino surely cannot still believe that Sissoko is one of Spurs’ most vital players, though, as he continues to look out of his depth.

The £30 million signing from Newcastle United’s first touch is poor, and he is often guilty of surrendering possession, under no real pressure.

Put simply, Spurs need better than Sissoko, and Pochettino’s praise of the former Newcastle United man is really starting to look misguided now.
