Tottenham Hotspur’s Mousa Dembele missed out on playing in their last match.

Mauricio Pochettino has told the London Evening Standard that he is still unsure over what date Tottenham Hotspur’s Mousa Dembele will return to full fitness.

Dembele missed out on playing for Spurs in their last match against West Ham United.

And Pochettino has suggested that the 30-year-old’s injury problems could persist for some time yet.

“We need to assess in the next few days,” Pochettino said.

“We don’t know if it’s possible for him to be available to go to Cyprus [to face APOEL Nicosia in the Champions League].

“And then we’ll see about Huddersfield [on Saturday]. We need to check him every day. Maybe in the next few days, we’ll take some decisions with the medical staff.

“I don’t believe [he will need an operation]. I don’t believe.”

Tottenham beat West Ham 3-2 in Dembele’s absence, with Moussa Sissoko taking the Belgian international’s place in the starting line-up.

Spurs are next in action in midweek, when they take on APOEL in the Champions League.

Tottenham will be the favourites for that contest, but Dembele’s absence in a blow.

The former Fulham man remains one of Spurs’ most talented players, and Pochettino will be keen to avoid a lengthy absence for the powerful midfielder.

If Dembele is injured for Spurs’ match against APOEL, it may present an opportunity for the likes of Harry Winks to start.
