Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has responded to questions about Serge Aurier.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that full back Serge Aurier’s situation is difficult, but he is happy with his competitive squad.

Spurs may have endured a difficult summer with no new signings arriving, but they have made a fine start to the new Premier League season, picking up two wins in two games.

With victories over Newcastle United and Fulham, spirits are high at Tottenham once again, but one player may not be too happy at being left out of Saturday’s 3-1 win over Fulham.

Right back Serge Aurier not only started against Newcastle, but also put in an inch-perfect cross for Dele Alli to head home the winning goal, and may have felt that he did enough to win a starting spot against Fulham too.

However, Aurier was dropped in favour of Kieran Trippier against Fulham, and with the England star scoring a superb free kick, Aurier may be kicking his heels on the bench for a little while yet.

The Ivorian didn’t enjoy the best debut season following his move from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, and RMC Sport recently reported that a proposed move to Atletico Madrid fell through over the summer.

Aurier must now fight for his place with Spurs, but having lost his place to Trippier already, the former Lens and Toulouse man may be worried about his prospects in North London.

However, boss Pochettino has told Football.London that Aurier’s situation may not be easy, but he is happy with the competitive nature of his squad, and with so many competitions to play in, suggested that Aurier must wait for his chance to get back into the side.

“It’s not easy but I said before, it’s difficult because at full-back we have young players, but yes, sometimes you need to take decisions and I am happy with the squad,” said Pochettino. “We feel to perform and keep the same level you need players that need to wait for their opportunity.”

“There ares a lot of games to play and the Premier League is so competitive, injuries, tiredness, if you compete in the Champions League and cups, I think international games too it’s important to have a competitive squad,” he added.
