How many players do Tottenham Hotspur need to sign in the summer transfer window?
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has suggested to The Mirror that the club will have to look at signing young players rather than established well-known footballers.
Pochettino has admitted that Tottenham are not in a position to compete with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea for players in the transfer market
The former Espanyol boss has referred to the recruitment of Dele Alli from Milton Keynes Dons as the kind of signing the North London outfit will have to make going forward.
“It is so difficult,” Pochettino told The Mirror. “We talk about, ‘If Tottenham are in the Champions League, it will be more attractive.’ Then it’s all about if you pay or not!
“When we talk about top players, we have unbelievable facilities, but if some club is paying double the salary, then how can you convince them? That is the reality.”
“You need younger players, like Dele Alli, who preferred to come here rather than another club,” added Pochettino. “We took a big risk on Dele Alli and now he is a massive player, one of the most important in England. But who took the risk? Us.”
Tottenham are building a new stadium, and this means that the North London club will have to be careful with money in the summer transfer window.
However, as performances and results have shown for the past two seasons, Spurs do not need too many players.
Pochettino already has a strong squad. A back-up striker for Kane and maybe a new centre-back in the summer would be enough.
What is important for Spurs is that they keep hold of their best players, such as Kyle Walker, Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier.
