Mauricio Pochettino suggests Juan Foyth is set to make Tottenham Hotspur debut

Tottenham Hotspur will take on Barnsley in the Carabao Cup this evening.

Mauricio Pochettino has suggested to Yahoo Sports that Juan Foyth will make his Tottenham Hotspur debut this evening.

Foyth joined Spurs from Estudiantes during the summer transfer window, and he has so far been held back by Mauricio Pochettino.

The 19-year-old defender was signed as a player with the potential to be a future star.

But it seems that Foyth will be given the nod this evening, when Spurs take on Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

Pochettino said: “For Juan, to play, compete & feel the new country, the new culture and Wembley, it’s so important, and for the team to know him.”

Foyth’s reputation is still developing in English football, with Spurs fans waiting to see the talents of their new signing.

Foyth faces a tough battle to break into Tottenham’s team in the near future, as competition for places in defence is fierce.

Tottenham already have one of the strongest backlines in the Premier League, with the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen occupying the three central defensive spots in Pochettino’s starting line-up currently.

Tottenham are yet to play a match in this season’s League Cup, but Pochettino has suggested that he will give some of his fringe players in his squad a chance.
