Mauricio Pochettino believes Tottenham’s new stadium will aid their title hopes.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told The Mirror that he thinks the club’s new stadium will help them fight for trophies.
Spurs lost out to Leicester City in the race for last season’s Premier League title, and even ended up finishing behind Arsenal after the 5-1 defeat to Newcastle on the final day of last season.
Pochettino will have been hoping to mount another push for the title this season, but Spurs currently lie fifth in the Premier League table, ten points behind league leaders and London rivals Chelsea.

Tottenham may not win the Premier League this season, but given that key players like Kyle Walker, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane are all tied to long-term contracts, Pochettino has the making of a title challenger for years to come.
The problem for Spurs is that, whilst their title rivals will be splashing the cash on big-money signings, they will be paying for their new stadium, with Tottenham scheduled to move into their new stadium in 2018.
Now, manager Pochettino has told The Mirror that he thinks the new stadium will help Tottenham challenge for titles, adding to the ‘brilliant facilities’ that Spurs already have at their disposal.
“I think for us, our first challenge is to finish the new stadium. We have brilliant facilities on the training ground and I think the new stadium can help a lot for us to fight for the titles,” he added.
Many have pointed to the fact that, when Arsenal left Highbury for the Emirates Stadium in 2006, their finances were drained by the move, and they ended up not only struggling to bring in top players, but also had to sell their own top players as well.
Tottenham have wisely tied down their key players to lengthy contracts to make sure that, even if they do have to sell important stars in the coming years, they and chairman Daniel Levy can demand a huge price for them.
Whilst Tottenham may not be able to compete for the big signings whilst they pay for their stadium, they have the spine of a title-challenging team – and Pochettino will be hoping to what Arsenal couldn’t, and win the Premier League title within ten years of moving home.
