Tottenham have managed just one win in their last five Premier League games. The sudden slump in form has seen them dropping down to seventh in the league, behind Arsenal and Liverpool.
Ahead of Tottenham’s visit to Vicarage Road, Mauricio Pochettino should tweak his system a bit, especially in defence.
England international Eric Dier is capable of playing in central defence and is a good ball player, but he is not a genuine central defender. In absence of Victor Wanyama, it is high time Pochettino bring him in his natural position, that is central midfield.
Pochettino has shuffled his system between a four and a three man defence this season. In the absence of Toby Alderweireld, Spurs have used Dier in his position when playing three centre-backs.
A more balanced system would have been a four-man defence with Trippier and Davies playing on the flanks, and Sanchez and Vertonghen operating as centre-backs.
However, if Pochettino wants to continue with his 3-man defence system, he must keep faith in Juan Foyth, the summer signing, instead of using Dier in that position.
The Argentine would add balance to the side, but the key here is whether Pochettino trusts him enough to carry out the job.
