Tottenham Hotspur are still yet to make their first signing of the summer, and Mauricio Pochettino has outlined the difficulty Spurs have.
Mauricio Pochettino has shed some light on the difficulty that Tottenham face during the transfer window, conceding that Spurs simply cannot compete with the big-spenders in the Premier League, the Daily Mirror reports.
It has probably been a fairly frustrating summer for Tottenham fans with Pochettino’s men being the only side in the top flight who have not made an addition to their senior squad during this window.

And the Spurs boss has outlined how difficult it is for Tottenham to land the right players when the other heavyweights join the race, but also added that turning to the academy is something that he is more than happy to do.
“Our fans know that we are not a club today that can compete with Manchester United and Man City for a player. We cannot fight them,” he said, as reported by the Daily Mirror. “We work in a different way.
“This type of player we are talking about, it’s not easy to find them.
“For me, it’s better to play with younger players who come through the academy so you can improve them and after that their motivation is always higher.”
While Tottenham fans would perhaps prefer one or two marquee additions before the new season begins having come so close to challenging for the title in the last two seasons, sticking with their current business model may well be a smart idea.

Spurs arguably have the strongest starting lineup in the Premier League, and have shown time and time again that they are able to unearth some fantastic youngsters who are quickly able to add depth to Pochettino’s squad.
And with those foundations in place, it would hardly be a surprise if one inspired signing is all that the team need to take that next step from contenders into serial trophy winners in the future.
