Tottenham Hotspur were beaten by Southampton far too easily yesterday.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters after yesterday’s bitterly disappointing defeat to Southampton at St Mary’s, and surprisingly suggested that it actually a good thing that his team lost the game, as quoted by Football.London.
Spurs are well out fo the title race now, and they face a really tough battle just to finish inside the top four, with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea all in hot pursuit.
United can in fact go level on points with Tottenham if they beat the Gunners at the Emirates this afternoon.
Pochettino’s men have experienced an incredibly disappointing run of results, having taken just one point from their last four league games.
And the Argentine suggested that it is a good thing that the media and fans now have a more realistic view on what Spurs can actually achieve, as quoted by Football.London:
“Yes, but it’s good. It’s good because a lot of people now are going to realise our real level and maybe start to stop talking about the perception. It’s important now to know that we need to fight a lot until the end of the season.”
Next up for Tottenham is a trip to Liverpool in three weeks time, and Pochettino’s side will have to be on their very best form, if they are to have any chance whatsoever of leaving Anfield with a positive result to show for their efforts.
