Tottenham Hotspur didn’t have things all their own way against Stoke City today.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media in the aftermath of his side’s hard-fought 2-1 win away at Stoke City, and shared what he told his players before kick-off, as quoted by Football.London.

Spurs were not at their fluent best today, but they displayed other qualities that are very much needed to compete at the right end of the table.

Pochettino’s side now sit in fourth position in the Premier League table, just four points behind second placed Manchester United, and there is a genuine feeling emanating from the club that they are on the verge of achieving something special.

Despite being knocked out of the Champions League at the hands of Juventus last month, this season must be considered as a successful one for Tottenham, and with Pochettino at the helm, there is every chance that the glory days will return very soon.

The Argentine spoke to reporters after his side’s win at Stoke today, and shared what he told the Spurs players before they took to the pitch against Paul Lambert’s men, as quoted by Football.London:

“It was a very good performance, very solid. I told them it would be tough as they are playing to survive. In the second-half we were more clinical but we are disappointed we conceded so quickly after scoring. The team kept pushing with the right mentality, to fight for every ball. It has put us in a very good position in the table.”

Next up for Tottenham is a home game against Premier League leaders Manchester City next weekend, and if they manage to beat Pep Guardiola’s rampant side, a top two finish will be a very real prospect.
