Mauricio Pochettino has joked with BT Sport, during their live Champions League coverage, that he has given Tottenham Hotspur’s players a day off, after reports that they were growing ‘tired’ off his training.

The Daily Mail claimed that Spurs were struggling this season as training sessions were often too intense.

However, Pochettino and Harry Kane both laughed off those suggestions in a press conference before their Champions League match against Red Star Belgrade.

Spurs certainly showed no signs of fatigue last night, as they cruised to a 5-0 victory against their Serbian opponents.

Tottenham’s performance was so good that Pochettino was happy to give his players a rest.

And the Spurs boss joked: “Tomorrow, day off because we scored five goals. All these rumours and complaints, I said to the players in the dressing room – tomorrow day off.

“You want the day off? You can have one tomorrow. If you are going to be happy like this, day off!”

Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son both helped themselves to two goals last night, while Erik Lamela also got himself on the scoresheet.

The hope is that the victory can help to turn Spurs’s season around, after what has been an extremely difficult start.

Tottenham are next in action against Liverpool at the weekend, so Pochettino will almost certainly be working his players hard in training when they do return on Thursday.
