Tottenham Hotspur were thoroughly outplayed by Arsenal at the Emirates.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s disappointing 4-2 defeat to Arsenal yesterday, and shared how they were made to pay for their exertions against Chelsea and Inter Milan over the last seven days, as quoted by Football.London.

Spurs were soundly beaten by the Gunners at the Emirates yesterday, and they were nowhere near their best, with Unai Emery’s team looking fitter, stronger and more aggressive.

The Lilywhites have had some incredibly tough games over the past week, however, and it seems as though they paid the price for their exertions against Chelsea and Inter last week.

That was Pochettino’s view anyway.

The Argentine addressed the media after Tottenham’s defeat to Arsenal, and shared what he believes was a major contributing factor to his side’s poor display, as quoted by Football.London:

“When we conceded a third goal it was tough for us to come back mentally, to find the energy to go and try to be again in the game. Of course in that moment it was tough for the team and we started to pay for the effort from the Champions League game against Inter and Chelsea and we started to suffer.”

Tottenham will have to bounce back quickly from their defeat to Arsenal, and they have a great opportunity to do just that, with a home game against Southampton next up on the horizon.

If they are to win the game against the Saints, though, they will have to be a lot better than they were yesterday.
