Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochetitno spoke to reporters after his side’s emphatic victory over Tranmere Rovers last night, and explained the reasoning behind bringing Harry Kane on for the final 15 minutes of the game at Prenton Park, as quoted by Football.London.

Spurs were quite simply magnificent against the League Two side last night, and they were already 6-0 up when they brought the 25-year-old hitman into the fray.

Many Tottenham fans were bemused by the decision to bring Kane on into a game that was already comfortably won, but Pochettino had his own unique reason for doing so.

The Argentine addressed the media after the match, and shared how it was his duty to give the Tranmere fas the opportunity of seeing an English football icon in action, as quoted by Football.London:

Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur acknowledges the fans following his sides victory in the FA Cup Third Round match between Tranmere Rovers and Tottenham Hotspur at Prenton Park on January 4,...

“It was respect, respect the people, respect the opponent. They’re not going to have many chances to see Harry Kane play here in a competition like the FA Cup. For different reasons I decide to make a change and put Kane on the pitch but one of them is that It’s important to show respect to the people here so they could see Harry Kane, who is an icon in English football. It is difficult in that division to see it.”

Tottenham have some vitally important games coming up, with matches against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup and Manchester United in the Premier League on the horizon.

Kane will have a vital role to play for his side, if they are to win both games, which makes the decision to bring him on last night seem incredibly risky.

Pochetitno proved how much he respects the FA Cup and lower league opposition, however, and for that, he deserves to be commended.
