The Tottenham Hotspur youngster seems to have the whole package.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters at the weekend, and shared something that he noted about Oliver Skipp that proves that he has a great chance of going on to become a top player for the club, as quoted by Football.London.
The 18-year-old made his first ever Premier League start for Spurs against Burnley on Saturday, and he really impressed in the heart of midfield, displaying a certain level of coolness and composure that defied his tender years.
Skipp is obviously highly regarded in north London, and he seems to possess all of the attributes required to go on and become a truly elite player.
Pochettino certainly thinks he will do just that.
The Argentine spoke to reporters, and highlighted how the fact that the teenager wasn’t nervous before kick-off is a good sign that he will go on to become a top player, as quoted by Football.London:
“I remember when it was my first game and I said to him ‘you look so relaxed. When I was 17, going to play I was so nervous’. I said ‘that is the difference between a player going to be a top player and a player who was going to be normal player like me’.”
Skipp really did seem at ease against Burnley, completing 46 of his 54 attempted passes, and he looked like a natural fit for Pochettino’s setup.
Only time will tell if he is to go on and become a truly elite performer, but under the tutelage of Pochettino, anything will be possible for the 18-year-old.
