West Bromwich Albion play host to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League tomorrow.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media today, ahead of his side’s clash with West Brom tomorrow, and responded when asked whether Mousa Dembele will be fit enough to face the Baggies, as quoted by Football.London.
The 30-year-old limped off with an ankle knock during Spurs’ 2-0 home win over Watford on Monday night, and he has been absent from training ever since.
Dembele joined the Lilywhites in the summer of 2012, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £15 million, and he has since gone on to establish himself as one of the club’s most important players.
Tottenham don’t seem to be the same side when he is not in the team, and Spurs fans will be hoping that he returns to action sooner rather than later.
Pochettino spoke to reporters during his pre-match press conference today, and provided a fitness update on the Belgium international ahead of tomorrow’s clash with West Brom, as quoted by Football.London:
“We need to assess him today because we are going to train now. It’s not clear whether he will be fit or not. But I think we need to wait until after the training and see if he’s in a condition to be part of the team or squad tomorrow. Still we need to assess him. He twisted his ankle. It’s not a big issue but it’s so close from Monday’s game. We need to assess today. If it’s not possible tomorrow then for sure he’ll be available for Wednesday and the weekend.”
Tottenham need just five points from their remaining three games in order to secure Champions League football once again next season, and three points at the Hawthorns would go a long way towards helping them achieve just that.
Following Poch’s comments, though, it looks like they might have to do it without their midfield talisman.
